Please see below descriptions for worker roles for our event held on the 17th June 2023 from 8pm to 5am with paid breaks during the night and one hour paid training in the week before the ball. Successful applicants will be invited to interview during Easter Term, using the email you provide. We will be paying all workers above the Cambridge living wage. Do note wages may change in line with government/living wage advisories running up to the event. We will require applicants to put down a refundable £50 deposit to secure their role – more details on this will be clarified during the interview. We also expect all workers to go through a self-guided briefing document, and an additional training session in the week preceding the event. More details on the exact dates and times will be provided during the interview.
General Roles
Bar Staff
£11 per hour
- Bar staff will help professional staff prepare and serve drinks or form the student-run bars at the ball.
- Workers will need to cope well under pressure and work well with others at their bar while maintaining good relations with guests
- Previous bartending experience and/or food safety qualifications would be advantageous, but not mandatory
Food Staff
£11 per hour
- Staff will help serve food to some of the dining guests, serve champagne to guests upon arrival, or work at and stock the food and drink stalls within the ball
- Staff will need to work well in a team, be organised, and maintain good relations with guests and external catering companies
- Experience in hospitality would be beneficial, but not mandatory
General Worker
£11 per hour
- General workers may have to work a number of different jobs, including litter picking and glass collection
- This requires flexibility and being able to quickly and effectively follow instructions to keep the ball running smoothly
Stage Crew
£11 per hour
- Crew members will work closely with our Ents Officers to ensure the entertainment schedule is adhered to
- They need to work well in a team, be able to deal with pressured situations, and communicate effectively
- Previous Ents experience would be advantageous in this role, but not mandatory
Senior Positions
Workers in senior positions will be in charge of their own team of workers and a key aspect of the ball. They will need to liaise with each other and the committee to ensure everything runs smoothly. Good adaptability, communication, and decision-making skills are essential, and these will be high-pressured roles.
Bar Manager
£13 per hour
- Bar managers are responsible for coordinating the student-run bars, ensuring bars are well-stocked and have a sufficient number of workers at times of high demand
- Previous hospitality experience is much preferred
